How Much To Repair A Curcuit Board In Furnace

  • #1

HVAC guy replaced the electronic circuit board controller in my American Standard unit that is viii years old that cost $2k full to install in 2002. One 15 cent transistor(HVAC human being said that!!!) burned out on the lath and he said "he had to replace the entire controller". He said that years ago you lot could get things fixed separately, merely not now. My previous furnace lasted 25 years with no repairs and still worked fine when information technology was replaced. We replaced it due to "greater free energy efficiency", only estimate how much energy we could buy with that $600 repair price that we never spent on the old furnace in over 25 years???

Thanks for any suggestions on a meliorate/less costly manner to repair my furnace instead of spending $600 for a replacement controller made on the cheap in Mexico that may not even last as long every bit the previous one.

If you have the tools and cognition to fix a board, and can go the parts, then repair is reasonable. Oftentimes, particularly with multi-layer circuit boards, it is too easy to mess up an internal connection or trace the logic to figure out how to fix it as the manufactuer oftentimes won't release that data. I've had luck replacing cooked components on occasion, just and then I've got a caste, and multiple years fixing electronics in the military and lots of old Heathkits (anyone remember them?). If you try to gear up it and so you fry something else in the unit, then you lot've fabricated that cheap repair into something a lot more expensive. It's rare that you tin practice a good comprehensive exam out of the excursion. Also annotation, it'southward non uncommon for some of the parts to not even exist labeled equally to what they are, so even if you lot can notice one burned, you may not know what to replace it with.

I just bought 2 new package units - 3ton ac with 90M btu gas furnace for 817$ And then a 36M btu unit of measurement with 2 ton AC for 617$. Made past York in the United states, major supplier with warranty. So your 600$ repair is a existent statement on the mendacity and mediocrity of American technicians and contractors.

Call the MFG and go a price on the board that was replaced just to run across how far bent over you were.

At present, WHY would he spend the time to notice the bad transitor(s), unsolder it, assuming he could even do it in the field, put a new i in, ditto for having information technology and doing it in the field, then reinstalling the board only to find out it still does not work, simply now the client does non desire to pay him for the considerable time he has already put into it or to continue diagnosing that 1, and wants him to but replace the lath at the originally quoted toll? If for no other reason than it is house is very cold by at present, and getting colder. IF circuit boards were meant to be repaired the components would be "plug ins". My Toyota Cressida and Supra both had wiper motors with a 25 cent gear that stripped, but I still had to buy a $150.00 motor to get the wipers working once again.

The price for furnace repair will depend on the area and brand of the furnace. The nigh common residential furnace is powered by natural gas and can cost anywhere from $2,500 to $14,000. Oil furnaces preceded gas and are however available in some states, but these furnaces tend to be less efficient. They price between $2,000 and $8,000 to install, perhaps more if existing duct work needs to be adjusted. Y'all can also choose to install electric heat, which comes from small registers located around the border of each room. Although the cost of installation averages betwixt $1,000 and $two,000, this blazon of "furnace" isn't a good idea for heating large spaces and comes with high free energy costs. Air source heat pumps price $1,500 to $7,000, while ground source may cost $seven,000 to $25,000. These furnaces tin exist used as air conditioning units in summer, but many tin can't operate in extremely cold climates, limiting their efficacy.

I have 28 yrs in consumer electronics repair. Now does the manufacturer accept the schematic available for the board? Very unlikely. Without that good luck. At present if yous do happen to find something how practise you test? Run back and install it? Hope you didn't miss anything. Ok at present for a tech to stay in concern lets say $100 min for board repair. A few dollars for parts. Many more dollars to know which office to modify. It doesn't pay to do much component level repair anymore. Been there done that. That's why I went into building maintence later on 28 yrs of component level repair on electronics. Better hours ameliorate pay.
